Foundation Event History
March 15, 2000: The Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable
Foundation and Virginia-Carolina Timber Inc. sponsored the Celebrity Basketball
Classic at Brunswick Academy in Lawrenceville. Among those who took part in the
event were Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Raines. The event raised money for local schools.
2002: The Foundation teamed up with the Faison School for
Autism and held a bowl-a-thon to raise money to offer financial assistance to
families whose children were attending the Faison School.
May 21, 2003: M&M’S
sponsored Hoops For Hope, a charity basketball game
between NASCAR stars and media personalities. FOX Sports
Net reporter Sean Pragano, ESPN.com’s Rupen Fofaria and MRN Radio pit road
reporter Danielle Frye were among those on the media team coached by former NBA
star John Salley. The NASCAR team included both Hermie and Elliott as well as
Darrell Waltrip and Dale Jarrett. More than 1,000 people attended the event held
at UNC-Charlotte. The money raised went to the Autism Society of America.
November 2003: Second Annual Bowl-a-thon with the Hermie
and Elliott Sadler Foundation and the Richmond International Raceway raised
money for the Faison School. Also in 2003, the Dollar Tree, Hermie's sponsor, donated money to
the Faison School for every lap he completed.
May 25, 2004: Race for Hope will go down in history as one
of the most interactive fan events in NASCAR history. Fans were able to enjoy
private dinners with their favorite NASCAR drivers, race against the pros on the karting tracks and receive autographs from all of the drivers in attendance. Over 100 Sadler Fan Club members also participated in a private function with
Elliott, Hermie and Momma Bell. The money raised went to the Autism Society of America and to the Victory Junction
Gang Camp. Over 3,000 fans took part in the event that included NASCAR drivers
Elliott Sadler, Hermie Sadler, Jimmie Johnson, Casey Mears, Martin Truex,
Richard Petty, Tony Stewart, Dale Jarrett, Jamie McMurray, Darrell Waltrip,
Michael Waltrip and Sterling Marlin!
December 12, 2004: The 3rd Annual Bowl-a-thon sponsored by the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Foundation and the Richmond International Raceway
raised money for the Faison School, The Christmas Happiness Fund and the Henrico
Christmas Mother Fund. There were raffles, autism bracelets, silent auctions and
tickets sold to race with Elliott and Hermie at G-Force Kart Track.
May
24, 2006: The Sadler Fan Club hosted its first event of 2006 at
Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte, NC. The members only event included over 200 Sadler
Fan Club members enjoying lunch, participating in an autograph session, a
question and answer session and racing against Elliott and Hermie. The
highlight of the event was when Hermie and a fan club member made contact,
sending the fan club member hard into the wall. Not only did she wreck, but she
also lost her shoe! We had a brief yellow for debris, or should I say
pumas on the track. The two made up following the event!
September 7, 2006: Elliott, Hermie and the Sadler family hosted 1,000 Sadler fans at
the
Sadler Barn on Thursday evening prior to the race at Richmond International
Raceway. Elliott and Hermie were joined by special guests Blake Shelton
and Dale Jarrett. The agenda for the evening included bologna burgers,
autographs, photo opportunities, viewing of Elliott's famous
hunting dogs and a concert by country music artist Blake Shelton.
The money raised from these two events in 2006 were
donated to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, Cure Autism Now and the
Commonwealth Autism Service.
October 10, 2007: The Sadler Fan Club hosted
“Bowling with Elliott & Hermie” at Dave & Busters in Concord, NC on Wednesday
prior to the
race
at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Fans were able to enjoy dinner, bowling, an autograph
and photograph session with Elliott & Hermie as well as numerous raffled items
which were given away throughout the night. The raffle prizes ranged from
autographed t-shirts, to stand-ups, to a spot on Elliott or Hermie Sadler’s
bowling team, and two lucky winners won a pair of tickets to the Bank of America
500. Team Hermie won the Bowling challenge!!.
